What is GSCO

A program supported by JST and implemented by Okayama University to promote :- Exposure of High-School students to International research – Western countries

GSCO offers:

– Science Lectures

– Specific training to English practises

– VC (Virtual Classroom) programs with foreign students:

VC is a 6 month internet exchange program in English to prepare the Japanese High-school students to intense international exchanges when they ‘ll visit abroad.

– International supervisors: France, Canada, UK

– Visits abroad (10 days – 2 sites) including:

    • International research Practicals: 1 day in Clean rooms, Synchrotron radiation facilities, Green Chemistry labs….
    • Cultural exchanges via strong interaction with International High-Schools

And the FY-2016 results of the “Visit to France” are…..

1 – English practice improvement

Schematic of the Virtual Classroom (VC) program. The VC program extended over nearly 6 months. It was a platform to train students from CSI (Cité Scolaire Internationale at Grenoble) and Okayama University to work together in a common language -English- before starting face to face exchanges at Grenoble.

Each VC session was about 2 hours long – Exchanges were in English – This preparatory work before meeting in the “Real” world has proved to be very useful

2 – Improve the ability of the Japanese H-S Students to communicate in English.
