On June 27th, the visit started with a meeting with the presidency team (see group photo). It was a warm welcome and Prof. Makino, president of Okayama University and Dr. Leo Karapiperis Minister-Counsellor, Head of Science and Technology Section, Delegation of the European Union to Japan could exchange about the interest for Okayama University into the European support for Research and Education.

Dr. Karapiperis explained “The EU Framework Programme for Research and Inovation” (also known as Horizon 2020), which combines the strengths of researchers and facilities from a total of 39 countries in the EU and beyond, with the aim of promoting cooperative international research. The program also supports dispatching and receiving young researchers from around the world, with the goal of generating international research exchange.
President Makino talked about the efforts of Okayama University to reach an International profile within a few years relying on strong assets in research and education. A WPI (World Premier Initiative) proposal is under evaluation), several ERASMUS projects and proposals are either active or under consideration and the number of students from International Universities of excellence are now staying in O-University research teams
At the end of the exchange with the presidency team, a full day meeting started (see attachment) It was organised to allow all members from Tokyo to explain their missions and favour the strengthening of the relationships between European Research and Education and Japanese Universities. Okayama University recent projects and proposals in the field of H 2020 and ERASMUS were presented. At the end of the meeting 6 master students currently performing research internship or coming back from an ERASMUS stay abroad gave a short testimony of their experience at Okayama University. It was clear that all them were very successful.
Finally an Individual Consultation session was organised. Not less than 16 applicants were welcomed and all of them received specific information from the EU delegation members (photos).
The visit and the associated meeting were attended by a large audience. More that 80 attendees followed the presentations all over the meeting. Including 27 professors from Okayama University, 32 Master level students (4 from Okayama University, 25 from Europe and 3 from other Asian countries). A few representatives of other Japanese academic institutions also attended
